Yanacocha possesses 45 species and 250 animals that are between birds, mammals, felines and reptiles.

El Puyo, Pastaza, Ecuador

Description

YanaCocha, since 2006 has been developing important work to benefit the conservation of flora and fauna in the province of Pastaza, receives animal victims of trafficking, which are confiscated by the environmental authorities in the various controls carried out in the province, as well as in major markets, plazas and homes where people have them as pets or companion animals.

From there comes the need to involve the whole society to seek mechanisms to educate people in order to create social awareness of biodiversity and the importance of this for the world.

Currently the YanaCocha Bio Park houses more than 200 specimens (42 species), the same that are under the care and attention of specialists, volunteers and workers who put all their love and effort to make the lives of these animals this better living conditions above.

The centre receives animals from the Ecuadorian Environmental Ministry, which have been confiscated from illegal trafficking, or donated from their “owners” who had kept them as pets. These animals are firstly evaluated by our dedicated and experienced staff to see if they can ever be released back into the wild, but if not, they are given the best conditions to live in, as similar to their natural habitat as possible.
